What it is

What goes into an EV charger install?

A Level 2 charger runs on a 240-volt circuit (the same kind of power as an electric dryer or range) and charges your car roughly 5–7× faster than a standard wall outlet. Installing one means running a dedicated circuit from your electrical panel to wherever you park.

It's more than bolting a box to the wall. It's a dedicated breaker, correctly-sized wire for the distance, and a panel that can actually carry the added load, which is why it's core electrical work, not a weekend project: an undersized circuit or an overloaded panel is a genuine fire risk.

At Heliotek, EV chargers are core electrical work. We're licensed electricians first. We size the circuit to code, confirm your panel has the capacity (and upgrade it if it doesn't), and install your charger to run safely for years.

What we sort out before install day

  • Whether your panel has room for a 240V circuit
  • The best charger location and cable-run distance
  • Correct breaker and wire size for your charger
  • Whether load management or a panel upgrade is needed
  • Permit requirements and any local utility EV programs

What EV charger installation costs

Every install is quoted up front: licensed, permitted, master-electrician-approved work across New England. No lowball bait, no hidden fees.

What affects your price?

Every home is different. What moves the price: the distance from your panel to the charger, whether the run goes through finished walls or needs conduit or trenching, your charger's amperage, whether your panel has spare capacity or needs an upgrade, and municipal permit fees ($100–$500). Your written quote includes everything: materials, labor, permits, and inspection. You're paying for licensed electricians, one in-house crew with no subcontractors, and a job that's permitted, inspected, and signed off by our master electrician.

Why Heliotek

Why homeowners choose Heliotek

Most EV-charger quotes come from a handyman or a low-bid crew. Here's what a licensed electrical contractor does differently.

🛡️

Master-electrician approved

Every EV charger install is done by licensed electricians and signed off by our master electrician. A charger wired by an unlicensed installer can overload an undersized circuit, void your home insurance, and jeopardize your charger's warranty. We do it to code, every time.

👷

One crew: panel to charger

No subcontractors, no handoffs. If your panel needs more capacity before the charger goes in, the same crew handles it: one permit, one team, one visit. We can add solar or a battery while we're there, too.

Engineered for what's next

We size your circuit for the charger you have and the one you might upgrade to. Planning a second EV, solar, or a battery? We'll reserve the capacity now so you're not paying to redo it later.

FAQ

EV charging, answered

Why does a proper install cost more than the cheapest quote?
Because you're not getting a charger bolted to the wall on an undersized circuit. Every Heliotek install is done by licensed electricians, signed off by our master electrician, permitted and inspected to code, and handled by one in-house crew, no subcontractors. That's what keeps your home safe, your insurance valid, and your charger's warranty intact. A cheap install that overloads a circuit or fails inspection costs far more than doing it right once.
How long does an EV charger install take?
Most home installs are done in a few hours to a single day. Longer wire runs, trenching to a detached garage, or a panel upgrade can add time. We'll tell you exactly what to expect in your written quote before we start.
Do I need a permit, and will it pass inspection?
Yes. EV charger installs require a municipal electrical permit and inspection. We pull all permits and schedule inspections as part of every job, and we don't consider the work finished until it's signed off by the authority having jurisdiction. The permit fee ($100–$500 depending on your town) is included in your quote.
Will I need to upgrade my electrical panel?
Sometimes. A Level 2 charger adds a significant load, and older or fuller panels may not have room for a new 240V circuit. During your assessment we check your panel's capacity. If it's tight, we'll either recommend an upgrade or use smart load management to add the charger safely, and we can bundle any panel work into the same visit.
Which chargers do you install?
All major brands: Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint, JuiceBox, Emporia, Wallbox, Grizzl-E, and more. We install the hardwired or plug-in unit you choose, or help you pick one that fits your car, your panel, and how you drive. We don't push a single brand.
Do you serve my area?
We serve all of New England: Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. Call us or request a quote and we'll confirm scheduling for your location.
